1209   imagePRESENTATION DISPLAY OF OFFICIAL STATIONERY: Superbly presented and typed up display of used Official stationery, c.1901-1969: Earlier items inc. 1903 Book Post wrapper (Waterlow & Sons) mailed within Old Calabar and inscribed "O.H.M.S." and in manuscript "Secretary's Office, Southern Nigeria"; 1905 env. inscribed "ON HIS MAJESTY'S SERVICE" sent to Liverpool, having both an "Official Paid/Old Calabar" cds in red alongside an ordinary cds of Calabar in black with embossed Arms of Southern Nigeria on reverse; Jul. 1907 OHMS cover from the Trade Marks Registry, Lagos to London having both a postal cancellation of Lagos and an Official Paid cancel of 5 Jul. 1907 (Proud type PD4 - earliest recorded date). Impressed Arms on reverse; large OHMS registered env. inscribed "POST OFFICE" & "No. 11" mailed to Hull with a franking of 7 x QV Southern Nigeria 1d adhesives cancelled 30 Oct. 1901; 11 May 1908 slightly cut down env. from Lagos to USA, franked 7 x 1d KEVII Southern Nigeria adhesives and used to send stamps to a collector/dealer with original invoice being present. 1218   image1956 2d BLACK & OCHRE COMPLETE SHEET INC. ROYAL VISIT: Complete sheets of 2d black & ochre pictorial definitive Plate 5-5 with and without the Royal Visit opt. Plates 5-5 were prepared for the 1956 Royal Visit 2d opt. Not listed by SG as any part of Crown Agents' release of unoverprinted 2d stamps to Nigeria. A few Plate 5-5 sheets in this distinctive deep ochre shade were left over from the Royal Visit overprinting and apparently sent to Nigeria just before the 2d grey was released in July 1956. Lot comprises 2 complete sheets, each of 60 stamps of the unoverprinted stamp, and a complete sheet of 60 stamps of the overprint. (Image)
