642   imageEARLY BRITISH OCCUPATION - 'ARMS' MARK ON INCOMING COVER TO BRITISH OFFICER; 5 Mar. 1806 EL (closed tear across address-panel is clear of h.s. and barely detracts) from the addressee’s mother in “Campsie” (Scotland) sent soon after she had heard of his valiant efforts in the Battle of Blaauwenberg (on 8 Jan. 1806). It was posted from London to the Cape “Pr. [Ship] Adeona” and was endorsed as received on “5 Augt. [1806]”; it has one of the earliest recorded strikes of the first British Occupation mark, the oval “[Crown]/POST OFFICE CAPE OF GOOD HOPE” – rare on ingoing overseas mail – on the front. It is also endorsed “Ship’s Bag 2 S[helli]ngs” in red on the front which was the incoming Ship Letter rate (in Dutch currency at this early stage of the Occupation). 643   imageAN INTERESTING COVER TO BELGIUM:1895 (Feb) printed env to Belgium bearing on reverse 1884-90 1d carmine red (deep shade) two vertical strips of six, a horizontal strip of five and a single cancelled with "W.T.P. O./A./FE 19/95/U.P." c.d.s with Anvers arrival c.d.s alongside. Red sealing wax obscures seven adhesives in varying degrees. B.P.A. Cert (2022) which states "Not an error of colour, but simply a deeper shade within the standard range for this stamp". (Image)
