1543   imageCHESTERFIELD - COVER EX PAROLE P.O.W. TO FRANCE ENDORSED "P:P:L:"; 26 Oct. 1811 EL (unsealed; as per censor regulations? - stain just affects LH edge of address panel) from POW Major "J[ean] Teulet" (see previous lot) on parole in "Chesterfield" sent to his young son in Versailles routed via London being charged "9" (decimes; rate from the Cartel port of Morlaix) on delivery. The meaning of the red manuscript "PPL" annotation at top right of the address is still not clear but may well indicate "Postage Paid to/via London" (although that postage was not paid to the Chesterfield P.O. in this case). A sad letter to the young son he has not seen for over 3 years. Cross Reference: MILITARY - P.O.W. MAIL, FRANCE (Image) (Image2)
