UNPLATEABLE! - VERY RARE, APPARENT/POSSIBLE SUCCESSFUL POSTAL FRAUD - Feb. 1841 E to Durham with grossly cut-into 1d black, both sides missing upper and lower corner squares, tied by red MX, CAMBRIDGE cds on the top flap. We cannot recall
seeing a 1d black this small before; the question is posed whether it was trimmed to remove a prior cancellation in a successful attempt to re-use the stamp. Very rare and of undoubted exhibit quality. Purchased in 2003 for £300. Cross

UNPLATEABLE? - RARE, POSSIBLE ATTEMPTED POSTAL FRAUD IN IRELAND - June 1840 env. to NORWICH (cds on the back, along with Dublin and London marks) franked with a heavily cut-into 1d black, left checkletter missing which possibly makes the
stamp unplateable though the general appearance seems to suggest plate 1a, tied by red MX. Possibly an attempt to trim a prior cancel, and if so successful postal fraud. Rare. Purchased in 2013 for £340. Cross Reference: IRELAND PRE-1922 -
