913   imageRARE PUNCH'S "ANTI GRAHAM" WAFER SEAL - DEPICTING LOBSTER - ON COVER EX NEWPORT PAGNELL; Small 20 Mar. 1845 env. (slight dusting/toning) to High Wycombe with 4m 1d Red (FD) tied by a Newport "564" Numeral with a part matching cds alongside, but also having a faint "SHERRINGTON" village UDC on the front; sealed on the reverse by a fine green "PUNCH'S ANTI GRAHAM WAFER" seal (just tied by small ink smudge - clearly belongs to this cover) depicting a clawed lobster in the centre with the punning inscription "NOT TO BE RED WITHOUT GETTING INTO HOT WATER"! We have only handled six other examples of this rare wafer seal in 20 years, and no other example of the 'lobster' design. Very rare Exhibition Item connected to the 1844-5 Punch campaign against the "Secret Post Office" and the then Home Secretary, Sir James Graham.
