Carried on the Le Daguerre piloted by Sylvain Jubert with a freight of 270 kgs, landing later the same day (12 Nov.) with the pilot, passengers & mail captured - the latter released after conclusion of the war - with a further mail bag jettisoned, recovered and transmitted and with a Decazeville d.s. of 29 Nov. on rear. 686   imageZINC SPHERE/MOULINS ALLIER MAIL TO PARIS; V.Rare 7 Jan. 1871 EL (consistent stains) to Paris franked 80c + 20c tied by '549' lozenge cancels of Boulogne-sur-Mer and representing the 1F rate for mail carried within a zinc ball for distribution in the River Seine which arrived in Paris on 18 Feb. This and most known examples that did arrive in Paris, did so after the siege but nonetheless is an important example of this ingenious method of transmitting mail. Important exhibition item.
