 ZINC SPHERE/MOULINS ALLIER MAIL TO PARIS; V.Rare 7 Jan. 1871 EL (consistent stains) to Paris franked 80c + 20c tied by '549' lozenge cancels of Boulogne-sur-Mer and representing the 1F rate for mail carried
within a zinc ball for distribution in the River Seine which arrived in Paris on 18 Feb. This and most known examples that did arrive in Paris, did so after the siege but nonetheless is an important example of this ingenious method of transmitting
