Sent with 'Ariel' of the Vanderbilt Line, leaving New York on 13 June, arriving in Southampton on 26 June 1857. Note: In Juni 1857, when the contract with the Ocean Line for monthly mail voyages to Bremen expired, the Postmaster General awarded a temporary contract to the Vanderbilt Line for one year. The letter was treated in the States like in the pre-convention rate of April 1857, in France however following this convention. Service" handstamp, all in red alongside, reverse with PARIS transit. Note: Intended for the 'Arabia' of the British Cunard Line, which this cover, however missed leaving Liverpool on 8 August. Note: Starting with this voyage, the two Vanderbilt steamers to Bremen were advertised to call at Le Havre.
