1596 cover imagePostal Routes to the GAPU, Schleswig-Holstein; 1865 (May 17): Envelope from Copenhagen, sent via Korsør and "via Kiel" as indicated by a handstamp in black, to Altona, bearing two single examples of 1864 oval type 4 sk. red comb perforated (AFA 13 / Facit 13), tied by "181 - SJ. JB. SP.B" Railway duplex datestamp. The Holstein Post Authorities allowed private ships to carry mail via Kiel and, from September 1864, they decided to charge 2 Schilling Courant postage due per weight class independent of any franking. Therefore 2 Schilling Courant was charged postage due. A rare and historically interesting cover. Reference: Fabricius Jensen, Posthistorisk Tidsskrift 1995-4, page 89 and 1997-1, page 16.
