Held in U.S. transit and "RETURNED FOR POSTAGE", with San Jose arrival mark of March, 16. A most remarkable use of the card, which did not comply with the UPU rules. 90275B cover imageAlmirante Occupation 1921: General Tomás Guardia Fernández 5 centavos orange definitive, bearing a 'double' strike of the provisional “ALMIRANTE OCUPACION COSTARRICENSE” overprint in black, fresh colour, perforations fine, used on a cover from Almirante to San Salvador, dated 9 March 1921, neatly tied by violet circular ALMIRANTE datestamp. Reverse, arrival "SERVICIO INTERNACIONAL SAN SALVADOR 9 MAR 1921" in violet. Minor creasing to parts of envelope, not affecting adhesive. A very scarce occupation provisional on cover to a foreign destination, issued during the Costa Rican military occupation of Almirante amidst the 1921 border conflict with Panama. Two small tears to envelope not affecting adhesive, otherwise a clean and attractive example, with great historical appeal. An important Central American postal history rarity, combining provisional issue, double overprint variety, occupation use, and international destination (Image 1) (Image 2) (Image 3)

2276 cover imageAustrian Occupation during the Crimean War; 1855 (June 9): Outer letter sheet from Buzeu to Grosswardein, Hungary with superb strike of the extremely rare "K.K. F. POST 12" (Imperial Royal Field Post) datestamp in black (Tchiliinghirian fig. 720 / Müller 3433a = 2'625 points) applied on despatch in Buzeu, mailed via Military P.O. in Bucharest with equally fine strike of "K.K. FELDPOSTAMT No.l" on reverse (Tchilinghirian fig. 712 / Müller 3436b = 600 points) and "FELDPOST No. 4" cds (June 12; Müller 3442a = 900 points) applied at Hermannstadt in transit as well as GROSSWARDEIN arrival (June 14). Exceptional and rare "triple" Field PO cover. Illustrated in Edition d'Or volume 72 on page 22. Note: The localization of the Fieldpost office using the "K.K. F. POST 12" datestamp is discussed in the literature. While Müller and Tchilinghirian suggest a usage in Bakeu, Jaretsky and Gmach argue for a use in Buzeu as Bakeu used another civilian-type datestamp and as he can show incoming mail to Buzeu showing this datestamp upon arrival (see Gmach, part I, pp 250-251 & 261-263). Eingangsstp. "SUISSE / PONTARLIER 23 MAI 67" resp. "LONDON / A / PAID / 27 MY 67", beide in rot sowie rücks. Ankunftsstp. "HABANA 23 JUNIO 1867" in blau.
