tied by "BEYROUTH / 13" circular datestamp (Nov 17) in black (Coles & Walker fig. 22, Ziya fig. 40) and circular negative chop in black reading "M 1" - this marking is the earliest Beirut Censor and was perhaps only used in the first few weeks of
the War (the M 1" probably standing for Clerk No. 1 (Memur-1) or Examined 1 (Muayene-1). Two further cds's on reverse of Beyrouth-11 (dated November 11, 1915 in error) and Beyrouth-13 (Nov 17, 1914). An extraordinary cover of great scarcity.
