Beirut 1887/1896: Empire 20 pa. red on buff postal stationery card used in 1887 to Cassel, Germany cancelled on despatch by early bilingual "BEYROUTH" cds in black (Ziya fig. 11 - rated 'RR') thence via Constantinople with
blue cds (Dec 31) and Cassel arrival (Jan 11) - this is the sole recorded complete example of this Beyrouth datestamp - the other partial strike is illustrated in Ziya, catalogue 'B' on page 124. Sold together with an 1892 20 pa. claret card
cancelled by the common bilingual "BEYROUTH" cds but with the centre entirely blank (in occasional use thus 1896-97) (Image 1)

Beirut 1865: Turkey Postage Due 1 pi. brown, used to pay the postage on 17 March 1865 cover from Acre (Palestine) to Beirut and tied by bold strike of the dotted "Battal" in blue - this being an unusual usage on the Dulos
issue adhesives either in Beirut or, indeed, in any town of the Empire. A fine and most attractive cover, believed to be the only cover from Palestine to Beirut with a "Battal" on the 1865 issue (Image 1)

York transit in red (April 25). Reverse with Triest transit (May 11) thence via Lloyd steamer with Austrian P.O. "BERUTTI" cds in black of arrival (May 22) and transferred to the Ottoman P.O. where the 1 pi. and 2 pi. adhesives were applied (after
