1547 image1911 (14. Nov.): 50 st. brown orange & black, a superb used examples showing Inverted Centre variety clearly with part (Philippople) No. 1 datestamp at lower right in black. All the known (only about 30) are used, this one with small violet handstamp on reverse. A magnificent example of this great rarity. Gi 167a = £ 7'000/Mi = EUR 7'500. Note: This variety was first discovered in 1918 by Nicola Kochanov in Sofia. The error had passed un-noticed by the public for 5-7 years, the only sheet with the variety being used at Philippople (Plovdiv). Therefore no mint examples are known (Image 1) (Image 2)

Includes 12 project essays related to the Prince Ferdinand I issue 1901 (certificate Karaivanoff). 1545 cover imageAustrian Post Offices in Bulgaria 1879: Austrian Levant 5 s. red postal stationery card, a used example to Vrenna incorrectly mailed at the newly opened Bulgarian Post Office in Sofia and struck with very rare Cyrillic "SOFIA / SREDYETZ" circular datestamp (Oct 4, 1879) in blue (Tchilinghirian fig. 70) both on obverse and reverse (Oct 5), circular "T" marking also applied on despatch, with transit cds of "GIURGIU" (Romania) dated Oct 20th in black and Vienna arrival cds in red where charged "20" kr. due to pay in blue crayon. Overall soiling but an extremely rare and unusual usage. Note: Sofia was under Russian military occupation from early 1878. The Russian Post Office was tranferred to the nascent independent Bulgarian Post Office in early May 1879, together with this datestamp (Image 1) (Image 2)

The envelope initially taxed with circular "T" marking but deleted by use of barred handstamp in black. Accepted as fully paid and struck with Bombay cds on reverse (March 23) and Romsey Station cds of arrival. Rare. 78 cover image1914/16: Cameroon Expeditionary Force: The Bob Maddocks collection of covers and cards, comprising over 150 items contained within two albums. A study of postal arrangements of the Anglo-French Cameroon Expeditionary forces, thoughtfully arranged chronologically and written-up by hand and with some typed descriptions. Includes numerous rare marks, several historical pieces, important items and unique covers. Noted: 1914 hand drawn card depicting Native & British hoisting Union Jack and map of Africa highlighting Togo, German South West Africa, Cameroons drawn by a member of the royal Engineers. Also two covers dated 1914 from Capitain F Giles Chief Engineers and director of signals, both addressed to Wales, one bearing George Nigeria 1 d. tied by Lagos cds. An 'On Active Service' with Lagos cds and violet cachet "Southern Provinces Post and Telegraphs". Another 'On Active Service' envelope re-addressed to London, used on the First Day of Operations of C.E.F. File Post Office of Duala, with enclosed captured stamps. Two 1914 covers one to Gambia, another to Scotland. both bearing the rare "EXPEDITIONARY FORCE/DUALA" cds. Postcards with multiple strike of captured "KAISERLICHES GOUVERNEMENT/(arms))/BUEA" seal (Commander A. Hughes). Also two cards with multiple strikes of German "DUALA" cds. cards with multiple strikes of the German "DUALA" cds and "EXPEDITIONARY FORCE/DUALA", A rare 1915 envelope from Duala to Shantung, China and scarce 1915 inter-Cameroon envelope from Duala to Nlohe among many other noteworthy covers.
