10540 cover imageInclinados 1844/46: 30 r. black on "Bull's Eye" paper, Type II, and 90 r. black, Type I, (RHM 5B+7B) used on reverse of 16 Dec 1844 entire letter from Caxias to Braga, Portugal tied by circular "CORREIO DE CAXIAS" circular handstamps in red with manuscript date in red ink; inadvertently prepaying the maritime rate of 120 reis due from the Brazilian post for the journey by ship on the River Itapecuru to Sao Luis and thence to Maranhao. Obverse with MARANHAO cds (March 20) in violet-red ink and framed "Barra de Porto" entry marking in blue (May 2, 1845) with '160' reis charge in blue and manuscript "190" reis to pay on receipt. Illustrated in "Inclinados" by Bernd Juchert on page 194 and in Walter Taveira's handbook on page 383. A most unusual and rare franking that displays well with no more than five covers bearing the Inclinados used to a foreign destination recorded, this item being unique with the adhesives on the "Bull's Eye" paper.
