572 cover image1892 (April 3): Wrapper to Assen, Van Gorcum correspondence, franked with 1889 ½ d. grey with black overprint, ½ d. grey with carmine overprint, 1 d. carmine and 2 d. olive bistre, each tied to cover by crisp Bremersdorp squared circle, reverse with Johannesburg (7 April), Cape Town (11 Apr), London (28 Apr) and Assen (29 Apr) backstamps. Cover slightly reduced at top and filing folds clear of adhesives, of little importance given the scarcity of this pleasing franking, which correctly pays the 4 d. letter rate. Cert B.P.A. (1974). Scarce - the block of four in the Peter van der Molen collection was endorsed "wrong colour" at base (see lot 1170) and this presumably emanates from that Proof pane (Image 1) (Image 2)

2440 cover image1872: Cover to Hong Kong, China, via England, franked with Coat of Arms 50 öre rose-red, two singles, together with Lion 20 öre red, making up the correct 120 öre rate to China. The adhesives are tied by STOCKHOLM 8.3.1872 cds., with red transit LONDON PAID 13 MR 72 and "1d" red handstamp alongside, together with framed FRANCO handstamp in black and the blue oval cachet of 'Joh. Sam. Billing & Son, Stockholm'. Reverse, arrival double ring cds. in black HONG KONG MARINE SORTING AP 23 72. Horizontal filing crease through lower 50 öre. Cover has been improved, including repairs to the adhesives, enhanced postmarks, the 50 öre shows margin faults and repairs. Despite these alterations, FACIT records this as the only cover known franked at this rate for China, making it a great rarity of Swedish classic postal history to the Far East. Sold “as is / tel quel” and with certificate. Cert. Wilén (2017) (Image 1) (Image 2) (Image 3) (Image 4)

2445 cover image1765-18233: Two covers bearing pigeon feathers encapsulated within the wax seals. First item a wrapper sent to Perna, Finland (was under Swedish rule until 1806 now part of Loviisa, Finland), addressed "kronorbefallningsmannen" (Crown-order-Man), Noble and esteemed Mister Elias Malmestedt, who lived in the Manor Tjusterby (1723-1789), dated 9 August 1765, with manuscript marking of 'three crowns' with horizontal line indicating 'Crown Mail'. Reverse, there is a brown pigeon feather within the wax seal, which symbolised that the letter must "fly" at the highest speed. Second item a 1833 wrapper sent from Höjentorp to Abrahamstorp near Hjo', addressed to the district police superintendent 'C. Carlberg', from Frans Gallander of Stohlan, the 'Kronofogte' (Crown Baliff) at the tax collector's office, with message: "About artillery horses. Must be forwarded by riding crown postman under penalty law. Leaving Stohlan on 1 April 1833 at 1 o'clock in afternoon". Reverse with red wax seal and white pigeon feather inserted. Under the feather is a message reads: "Arrived at 12 o'clock noon 2 April and forwarded at once, Carlberg." Soiling, although most presentable. Nice combination. Ex.
