Includes 1871 1 s. deep green, surcharge Type C, from St Helena to Cheltenham (14 JU 80), addressed to Captain A Philips, Royal Navy, very clean and fine example and accompanied with an almost identical cover, same franking, recipient and charge, dated 15 September 1879, although has opening tear top. Also, 1869 pre-paid entire sent to Coutences, France, dated 12 March 1869 sent at the 8 d. rate, with St Helena red oval and London and French transit marks, carried on the "Cambrian". Grey-Wilson, including an envelope franked 1887/92 6 d. purple on red with St. Helena cds showing '2' instead of 'FE' (rare) in the dateslug, and an uprated GB 1 d. pink stationery envelope with Jubilee 3 d., attractive 1888 cover with Jubilee 2 d. and 4 d. from Bracknell, all have faults or roughly opened, although a scarce and interesting selection. Note: Sir William Grey-Wilson (1852-1926) was appointed Colonial Secretary of St. Helena in 1886, was Acting Governor from 1887 to 1889 before his official appointment as Governor from 1890 to 1897.
