2416 cover image1870c.: Serbia, Belgrade Merchant's Money letter, Russo correspondence to Wien. Folded letter from Belgrade, dated 29 July (c.1870s), sent as a money letter, bearing large red wax seal impressed “J.B.R.” beneath a crown and matching blue oval cachet “JACHIEL B. RUSSO / BELGRAD” to front, of the well-known Jewish merchant house. Endorsed in manuscript with financial notations, addressed to Vienna (possibly through or via the Austrian Consular Post in Belgrade). A scarce survivor of Balkan commercial correspondence, showing the special sealing practices required for money letters. Rare piece of early Serbian postal history with strong mercantile provenance (Image 1) (Image 2)
