Illustrated in Bernd Juchert "Ochsenaugen im Viererblock", item 34 on page 21 and in "Bull's Eyes" by Brookman on page 3. 10506 cover image30 reis black, fine impression on greyish paper, two fine large margined examples (Large plate, State A, positions 17 and 23), used on reverse of April 1848 entire letter to Villa de Jacorahy sharing bold strike of framed "ARROZAL." handstamp in brown (pre-philatelic handstamp, Ayres unlisted on adhesives). The stamps removed and replaced, not mentioned on RPS certificate but a unique usage from Arrozal with a postmark (the other known cover is cancelled in manuscript - also ex Koester at Corinphila in 1984). Folded for Exhibit display with a few minor tears repaired by hinges, a marvellous and extremely rare first issue entire. Illustrated in Bernd Juchert "Bull's Eyes on Covers" on page 58. 10517 bof image1843 (Aug 1): 60 r. black, late fine impression, a used block of nine from the 1st Composite Plate, State B with large margins all round and showing the horizontal dividing lines at top and twice at base, positions 3-6 / 9-11 / 15-17; cancelled by framed "CIDADE / DE / NICHTHEROY" handstamps (Ayres fig. 1371) in black. The multiple with ironed creasing and six thins and some repairs leaving the block with a washed appearance; nevertheless of great rarity with just four multiples larger than this known and thus an important showpiece. 10518 cover image1843 (Aug 1): 60 reis black, fine Impression, with close to large margins all round with horizontal marginal line at top, applied as seal to reverse of March 1844 entire letter from Aiuruoca, Minas Geras to Rio de Janeiro, Tixeira correspondence, tied by superb strike of extremely rare straight line "AIVRVOCA" handstamp in brown (Ayres fig. 1126). Manuscript docketing of receipt at left, minor ageing to letter sheet and trivial fault to the upper margin of the adhesive but of great rarity with only two Bulls Eye covers known with this cancellation. Illustrated in "Carimbos sobre os olhos-de-boi" by Henrique Bunselmayer Ferreira on page 5; and in Bernd Juchert "Bull's Eyes on Covers" on page 52. A delightful and very rare entire.
