Struck with bold violet cachet “Corpo di Spedizione Russia Settentrionale – Comando”, censor marking “VERIFICATO PER CENSURA”, and endorsed “O.A.S.” (On Active Service). Written during the Allied intervention in northern Russia, likely from Archangel where Italian troops operated alongside British forces against the Bolsheviks. Substantial varied holding spanning Imperial Russia through early Soviet Union. Includes Arms issues and inflation surcharges; regional overprints of Armenia, Georgia, Azerbaijan, and Transcaucasian Federation; colourful pictorials of Tuva (1926–34) and early Mongolia; a broad run of USSR definitives and commemoratives to the 1960s, with highlights such as 1961–62 Gagarin “Conquerors of Space” souvenir sheets (2 examples) and related covers. Additional postal history including a registered cover franked on reverse with a block of fifteen plus additional adhesives, all tied by 1923 cancellation, addressed in violet ink to Chernigov (Chernihiv), Ukraine, with other examples of censored military mail and attractive airmails. Condition is mixed, although much of the adhesives are very fine.
