90132A cover image1863-68: 4 d. black on yellowish wove paper, perf 11½ x 12, good colour and perforations mainly fine, used example on red-brown envelope, from Summerside to Maine, USA, dated 23 September 1869, neatly tied by barred oval cancel with clear "SUMMERSIDE P.E.I. / SP 24" circular datestamp in black alongside. Addressed to H.G. Shaw Esq., Alfred, Maine, U.S.A. Reverse, with "ST JOHN N.B SE2? 69" cds in black. Clean and attractive cross-border usage of the 4 d. black, paying the single letter rate to the United States. Covers bearing this issue are not common, with very few recorded to US destinations. Envelope with minor aging as usual, but overall fresh and visually striking. An appealing and scarce Prince Edward Island cover - desirable both for its destination and for its aesthetic presentation. Cert. BPA (1989) (Image 1) (Image 2) (Image 3)
