Further checking the clerk realises it's the British Post Office in Morocco. Fine. 90219 cover imageBoer War 1900: British Occupation 1 pence purple ‘V.R.I. 1d’ surcharge in black (Type 32), in combination with Great Britain Jubilee 1887, 1½ pence dull pale purple & pale green, both of good colour and fine perforations, the former tied by indistinct cds “BRITISH ARMY POST OFFICE SOUTH AFRICA” (possibly 12 April 1901), the latter tied by “LONDON MY 4 01” to an envelope sent to “The Merchant's National Bank, US America” (no district given), endorsed "From No. 444 Sgt. Holland 2nd Black Watch” (for purposes of the 1d soldier concessionary rate); the British adhesive applied in London as a courtesy because the USA did not recognise the rate from the UK. 90220 cover image1900: British Occupation 5 shilling green surcharged ‘V.R.I. / 5s’ in black (Type 32), fresh colour and fine perforations, tied by cds “SPRINGFONTEIN O.R.C. FE 28 01” to an envelope sent to Kirkham Hall, via Springfontein, endorsed “To be sent by special runner”. Two vertical filing folds, well clear of adhesive. A fine and rare example; one of a handful recorded. Note: ‘Special Runner’, was a form of accelerated delivery using native runners from one rural locations to another. A substantial and diverse postal history collection housed in a cover album, comprising approximately 280 covers, postcards, and aerogrammes spanning Ottoman, British Mandate, transitional, and early Israel periods. Noted are early Ottoman frankings, Mandate airmails (including KLM connections), commercial mail, registered and censored covers, slogan cancellations (e.g. Levant Fair, Jaffa fruit trade), gutter pairs on cover, and early Israel usages to Europe and the USA. Mixed in places, although several fine. Many better frankings, destinations, and postmarks present. 1406 cover image1854/1924: Group of covers, one from US from San Francisco to Boston with rare oval "INDEPENDENT LINE / AHEAD OF THE MAILS / UNCLE SAM AND NORTH STAR / VIA PANAMA", franked with 1851 3 c. brown-red in a horizontal pair (margins touched to clear); two pre-philatelic covers 1859-79 and incoming Mail from 1881, Great Britain 2½ d. blue, plate 23, used on 1884 cover to "H.M.S. Swiftsure", Pacific Station, care of H.M. Consul in Panama, tied by "SANDWICH" cds (April 1) in black. Another incoming cover 1907 from Oslo to ship "S.S. Fornebo" at Colon, Panama franked by Norway Posthorn 20 ö. blue tied by Kristiania machine cancel (Dec 31). Reverse with "Agencia Postal / Colon" cds (Jan 21, 1908) in violet, ship had sailed and struck on obverse with scarce "NON RECLAMADA" and "REBUT / COLON, / REP. DE PANAMA" cachets in violet.
