Mararoa at sea, sent to Auckland (140 km. from shore), tied by boxed blue-violet "G.B-P.A. Jan. 29 1900 N.Z." (Pigeongram Agency mark Type 2), with handwritten message which among other matters states: "The post is just off......" (confirming the birds were released at sea). Small paper adherence. Comes with Great Barrier Pigeongram Service receipt, dated 1 November 1899, confirming receipt of a pigeon message, very fresh and clean. Additionally, a flimsy dated 26 January 1904 sent from Port Fitzroy by Mr Warren to Mr Howie (Agency operator), saying: "Dear Sir, Please send birds next week as we are sending the last away this morning."; with circular violet "The Original / Great Barrier Pigeongram Service" cachet.
