1837: Entire letter to London, endorsed at top "Post Office Port Louis - 18/2/37" in manuscript, struck on reverse with framed "INDIA LETTER / HASTINGS" in red (Robertson fig. In. 1) and London arrival (June 12) adjacent in
red. Rated "2/4d." due to pay: 4 d. for an India Letter and triple the Hastings to London rate of 8 d. A scarce entire - one of just two known which conforms to the 1834 Ordinance. Note: The 1834 Ordinance stated "The sum charged as postage should be
marked thereon together the dates of the month and year in which it was received into the Office". Starngely no inland charge is shown except perhaps the "X" under the endorsement potentially denoting the 3 d. prepaid, and only two covers (both dated
in 1837) appear to have been mailed with the Ordinance's instructions correctly followed (Image 1)

SHIP LETTER of London in black with cds in red alongside and rated there at "3/-" in manuscript (April 26) - a double letter rate of 1/4 d. (2 x 8 d.) plus 1/8 d. accountancy rate for Anglo-French Treaty, with French "15" grams notation at top left,
with a charge of 14 décimes from Paris to Bordeuax + 36 décimes (equal to 3/-) leaving a total payable to 71 décimes to pay. Small imperfections but a most unusual cover (Image 1)

1848 (Dec 2): Unpaid entire letter mailed locally within Port Louis, struck with extremely small framed "PENNY POST" handstamp in black (Proud fig. A1) with manuscript "2" adjacent for the amount due upon delivery. An
extremely rare usage. Note: The 1847 Ordinance included the rate of 1 d. for prepaid delivery within Port Louis. The handstamp was made by J. O. Barnard, the printer of the Post office and Post Paid stamp issues. Three strikes are known on the famous
1 d. Post Office "Ball Covers" and just two further examples are recorded including the above entire (Image 1)
