1099 cover image1926: Inland Postage, 2½ b. black on orange, imperforate on horizontally laid paper, a used example with close to large margins all round, used on part of front page of the "AL-IMAN" Newspaper, tied by circular "SANA'A" negative seal handstamp (Type 1) in black. Somewhat soiled but very rare. It is this describer's theory that the 2½ b. value was issued in orange for just this purpose - it is more often (albeit still rarely) found on Newspaper frankings - and the 2½ b. value printed in orange would have been much easier to see for postal staff when applied to a Newspaper. Provenance: Collection Herry Schaefer, Corinphila sale 123, October 2000, lot 4901 (Image 1) (Image 2)
