1911 (Feb 18): Queen Victoria 1 a. 6 pi. sepia in combination with KEVII 2 a. violet used on a registered cover, dated 18 February 1911, from Allahabad to Calcutta, flown on the World's First Official Airmail on the Allahabad
to Naini Flight, tied by special event cachet in pink 'FIRST AERIAL POST / 1911 / U.P. EXHIBITION ALLAHABAD', with the boxed rectangular 'R / U.P. EXHIBITION CAMP / ALLAHABAD' registered in black. Reverse has a black despatch cds 'ALLAHABAD REG. 18

1832 (July 4): Entire letter to the Secretary of War in London endorsed "From Agnes Sparling Pensioner's Wife" at top, struck on despatch by framed "POONAMALLEE / POST PAID" handstamp, with oval MADRAS datestamp (July 6) both
in black and superb (for this) "MADRAS SOLDIERS LETTER / FREE" in red (July 6). Struck on arrival with fine circular "INDIA SOLDIERS / 3 / LONDON" handstamp in black (Robertson In. Sol. 4) - rarely found so fine; this charge deleted and struck with
"♚ / FREE" London datestamp (Dec 3) in red. Some docketing but a very fine and rare entire. Note: Agnes Sparling, writing from Poonamallee's Depot, addresses her enquiry to the Secretary of War at Horse Guards. Her husband was invalided home some
four years previously from his Regiment and had promised to send money for his wife's support which was not forthcoming. Her father and brother had both recently died and no funds were now available and she asks the Secretary to deduct money from her

Wreck Mail 1863: British Post Office O.H.M.S. blue envelope mailed from London (Feb 7) to Forres, Scotland with framed cachet on reverse "Saved from the wreck of / the Colombo" perfectly struck in black with Forres arrival cds
(Feb 8) also in black. A rare example of an 'ambulance' envelope from this wreck where the salvaged letter was probably too damp to be forwarded other than as an enclosure. Rare. Note: On 19 November 1862 the P&O Steamer "Colombo" on a westbound
return to England foundered on Minicoy Island. She keeled over with sea water entering the hatches. The crew and passengers were saved and some of the mail was rescued by divers (Image 1)
