5254 cover image1840/90: 'Black Proof' of the Forgery of Fores 'Courting' envelope (Cassell FNSN 1) and 'Dancing' envelope (Cassell FNS3) negative impressions on large smooth surfaced paper with the designs se-tenant (440 x 165 mm.), fine and unusual without Fores imprints. Front, endorsed “Callao Jan 5th 1876” and bearing transit cds “PANAMA JA 18 75” alongside a further strike of the “N.YORK STEAMSHIP FEB 5”. Some imperfection. AMB CALAIS A: 13 OCT 57” (also tying adhesive), four red manuscript marks. Reverse, despatch cds “SAN JUAN PORTO RICO SP 29 1857”, transit cds “PARIS 18 OCT 57” and arrival “Madrid 24 OCT 57”. 90094 cover imagePUERTO RICO: 1870: Line-Engraved 1½ pence rose, plate 3, in combination with Surface-Printed 1877, 4 pence sage-green, plate 15, horizontal strip of three, all fresh colour and fine perforations, tied by British Post Office in Puerto Rico upright barred oval “F85” to an entire, sent to Genoa, Italy, endorsed “via England”, with transit cds in red “LONDON PAID 18 JU 79". Reverse, arrival "GENOVA 30 6 79” cds. Slight climatic discolouration as is usual. A fine and scarce franking. Note: The rate is made up of 1 shilling to the UK and 1½ pence UPU rate to Italy from the UK, minus the double transit fee of 1 penny. 1969 cover imageOutgoing to Austria 1862 (March 11): Cover from Syros to Trieste franked at 75 lepta rate (including 20 lepta internal), bearing 1861 Paris printing 20 lepta blue and 40 lepta mauve in combination with 1862 Athens printing 5 l. deep green on greenish and 10 l. orange on greenish all tied by dotted '67' numeral of Syros, with despatch cds in black and PED handstamp in red alongside. 1971 cover imageMail from Italy to Greece via Italian Paquebot 1866: Underpaid Entire lette from Brescia to Athens, bearing Regno Tiratura de Torino 40 c. carmine (Sassone T20) struck on despatch with BRESCIA cds (March 3), underpaid and therefore struck with framed "FRANCOBOLLO INSUFFICIENTE" handstamp, making its journey with a "PIROSCAFI / POSTALI / ITALIANI" from BRINDISI (March 5) and arriving in Athens where charged with '65' lepta in red crayon paid by Greece 1862/67 5 l. green on greenish, 20 l. blue and 40 l. dull mauve on greyish paper, all tied by ATHENS datestamps (March 3, julian) corresponding to the single rate under the Greek / Italian Convention of 1864. The Greek adhesives well margined, the Italian one slightly faded, the cover with some toning nevertheless a fine combination franking (Image 1) (Image 2)

1976 cover image1939/42: Correspondence of the Greek set designer, costume designer, and decorator Georgios Anemogiannis (1916-2005) to the fashion designer Elfriede Czerny in Vienna, then under German rule, where he had studied in the 1930s decoration at the Vienna University of Technology, at the Special School of Theatre of Max Reinhardt and the Special School of Scenography of Professor Rottmayer at the Technical University of Vienna. 2325 cover imageGreek Post Offices, Ibraila; 1860 (Aug 20): Unpaid Entire letter to Syra, Greece, struck by clear "IBRAILA VLACHIA" cds in light blue, reverse with SYROS arrival cds (Aug 28). Minor toning, nevertheless an early entire despatched in this rare office which provided its services between 1857 and 1866. Until end of September 1860, the rate was 90 lepta for the Shipmail plus 10 lepta domestic rate which was increased to 20 lepta after that date. Illustrated in Edition d'Or volume 72 on page 103, signed Holcombe. Note: The Greek offices in Romania and Sulina existed from 1857 only for few years and were closed as being ‘redundant and unprofitable’ as noted in the Circular of 26 February 1866 when finally those in Braila and Galatz were abolished. 2326 cover imageGreek Forwarder in Constantinople; 1869 (Aug 30): Cover written in Galatz and directed to Corfu, first forwarded by N. Agatos to Constantinople, struck by his agent's cachet, given to the Greek post office and there struck by "KONSTANTIN TOURKIA 3 Sept 69" cds in black, Cleaned Plates Printing 5 l. yellow-green and 40 l. grey-mauve (Hellas 25+28) added, both adhesives touched on one side, tied by fair '96' numeral of the Greek P.O. in Constantinople. This paid the 45 lepta rate with French vessel following the 1866 Greek-French postal convention to its destination as shown by the small oval PD handstamp. Reverse with PIRAEUS transit (Sept 5) and KERKYRA arrival (Sept 6) cds's. Illustrated in Edition d'Or volume 72 on page 105 (Image 1) (Image 2)
