627 cover image1840: 1 d. black, plate 1b, and 2 d. blue (2), plate 1, all with good to large margins, tied to folded cover by red Maltese Crosses, reverse with London c.d.s. despatch (23 June, 1840) and Brighton receiver in red (24 June), the 1d adhesive paying a late fee, extremely rare, one of only three recorded examples, a remarkable cover, and likely the finest such extant. Cert RPSL (1995) Gi. AS5, DS5. Provenance: Robson Lowe Auction, 17/18 November 1938, lot 292 Collection McGowan, Robson Lowe Auction, 25 January 1950, lot 297 Christies Auction, 25 May 1995, lot 2058 Collection Pichai Buranasombati, Shreves, 15 March 2001, lot 229 (Image 1) (Image 2) (Image 3) (Image 4)

628 image1840: 1 d. black, plate 1b, seven singles, lettered GA, GL, HK, ID, IL, MH, and OI, each with four marings, the odd example slightly close in places, cancelled with Maltese Cross in red or black, each example showing non-coincident re-entry with portions of original impression, the occasional minor imperfection, else a fine group, challenging to assemble Gi. 630 piece image1840: 1 d. black, plate 2, lettered DA, a used example with three good to large margins, just shaved at top right, tied to small piece by Maltese Cross in red with reverse of piece showing "LEICESTER" circular datestamp "MY 4 / 1840" in red. However even though plate 2 is known used from May 6th, it is also known that Leicester occasionally omitted the '1' or '2' of the day of the week concerned, or indeed, the stamp was used after the date of the cancellation on a re-used cover. The stamp has been removed for checking and hinged back into position, an interesting curiousity. Cert. Brandon (2003) Gi AS15 (Image 1) (Image 2) (Image 3)

632 cover image1840: 1 d. black, plate 2, lettered KF, a used example with good to large margins all round and showing portion of adjoining stamp at top, tied to 1841 folded entire to Cheadle by crisp strike of black Maltese Cross with clear "UTTOXETER AP28 1841" double-arc despatch cds. alongside and Cheadle arrival cds. (Apr. 29) also on front. A vertical file fold well away from the adhesive requires cleaning yet a delightful Staffordshire usage. Gi. AS145=£ 750 (Image 1) (Image 2)
