The finest of the five reported covers with this marking and unique with the handstamp struck twice. Cert. 638 image1811 (July 9): Colonial registered prepaid cover from Santa Fé (Bogotá) to Medellin and re-addressed to Antioquia, with "#" surrounding the edge of front to denote registration, struck with framed "SANTA FÉ / YNDIAS / FRANCA" and manuscript framed and filled "CERTIFICACION A STFE. / SALIO EN 9 DE JULIO 1811" both in red (Tizón fig. 7+9 = EXT). Reverse with manuscript '21 oz.' and full rate: "Las 10 à 7 = 70, Lat 11 à 3½ = 38½, Porte 108 + Drõs = 120" reales de plata. Unique example of registered mail in the Colonial period from present day Colombia. A wonderful cover. (Image 1) (Image 2)

3537 image1881: Colombia, 5 c. blue, two singles overlapping, used on cover, from Panama to Zurich, Switzerland, dated 24 March 1883, clear to good margins, crisp impression, endorsed "via Bordeaux", tied by 'PANAMA' undated oval in black, with French 'ASPINWALL' transit alongside, to the reverse Ambulant and Thalweil datestamps, the former 24 May 1883 the latter indistinct, minor opening flaws at top, otherwise fine, a scarce 10c franking being the new basic rate for foreign countries using Colombian postage from Panama. 5400 image1859: 2½ c. green, two examples of rich colour with ample to large margins in combination with 10 c. buff, good margins all round but just shaved at left, used on 12 October 1859 entire letter from Barbacoas to Pasto, each stamp tied in manuscript by part of "Bar-baco-as" in manuscript. Minor wrinkles not affecting the appearance of this superb example of the 15 centavos rate for between 150 and 450 kms., and a very fine first issue cover used with the #1 - which is an extremely rare stamp on letter with just thee examples currently recorded.rnProvenance: Collection Alfredo Frohlich, Investphila, Lugano, 17-18 April 2010, lot 351.
