1867 (23.Mar.): 20c. on 15c. blue "FERRO DI CAVALLO" type I, ten examples including a
vertical strip of eight on cleaned letter from VENICE to ROVIGO. The stamps are tied by seven strikes of the single circle date stamp "VENEZIA" (23 MAR 67 11M). The franking is one of the largest known multiple frankings of the first type "FERRO DI
CAVALLO". The letter is not entirely complete with a missing flap, some stamps with minor imperfections. Nonetheless an eyecatcher. Certificates E. Diena (1987) and Colla (1997). (Image 1) (Image 2) (Image 3)

horizontal strip of five and a single on transatlantic letter from Messina via France to New York. The franking is affected by two vertical filing creases, otherwise the letter is in very fine condition. A 5 June New York mark in red contrasts
beautifully with the stamps and the envelope. A rare letter with certificate Raybaudi (2001). (Image

franking for letter from LIVORNO to FLORENCE. The stamps are tied to the letter by the dotted numeral cancel "14" from LIVORNO, an arrival FIRENZE from the same day is on the reverse. There is minor patina but overall this exceptional letter is of

MONTENERO DI BISACCIA to AQUILA. The stamps are cancelled by numeral bar canceller 1344. The letter displays some traces of wear over the years, the stamps appear fersh and in fine condition, some short perfs and other minor imperfections are to be

1889: 5l. green and carmine, together with 1l. brown and yellow (3) and 45c. olive on large
fragment of an insured letter from Rome to Palermo, each stamp tied by, due to the contents slightly blurry cds "ROMA". An insurance label "A/ ITALIA/ ROMA/355" is also affixed to the front. In the top left hand corner is an endorsement g588 for the
weight and l. 8.45, which is the resulting postal charge. The piece has been cleaned and has a central vertical fold well clear of the franking. The letter is signed Enzo Diena and comes with a certificate "[....]originale e reca francobolli

CAPRILE to NARBONNE tied by multiple strikes of CAPRILE (ALLEGHE) 11 LUG 91. On front a further strike as well as a registration label and transit marks. The letter was redirected to LYON. The block hails from the top left quadrant of the sheet and

brown, issued for the Isole d'Egeo but without the EGEO overprint, cancelled by part strike of "RODI / EGEO .. .. 38" cds. One of the rarities of the Italy and its dependencies, belonging to one sheet of 50 subjects left without overprint, the

General Balbo Mass Flight 1933 (July 27): Cover with exceptional 'mass'-franking dispatched
at "VALENTIA ISLAND AU 5 1933" cds's bearing crossed out 'AER-Post' special cachet in green on front on back and carried by regular mail to Rome, backstamped on arrival (9.VIII.33) on reverse. In addition scarce proof strike of AER handstamp in
violet applied on ordinary paper as well as signed original photograph by the two Italian pilots A. Orsini and G. Valle. A fine assembly Longhi 2960 = Euro 4'000 per envelope for flight only.rnDue 'bad weather' the return flight had been delayed, so
Balbo had to cancel his original plan returning via Valentia Island (Ireland) and choose the more southern route via the Azores back to Rome. (Image 1)
