3538 image1841: 1 d. red-brown on blued, Black plate 1b, a horizontal pair MA-MB, used with a horizontal strip of six OA-OF, margins generally large, on 1841 cover to Korsör, Denmark endorsed "p. Steamer from Hull to Hamburg"; tied by Maltese Crosses in black. Reverse, displaying well with "Newcastle on Tyne" despatch cds (June 22) and two line "HULL / SHIP LETTER" in black (Robertson fig. S9). Carried bv Private Ship with correct 8 d. prepaid; charged due upon arrival with "42" (skilling) to pay in red manuscript. A very light vertical crease affects OD, nonetheless, a splendid and very rare cover - the  second largest franking of the "Black Plate" 1B used on cover in private hands and the sole example to a foreign destination. An extraordinary usage of this stamp, the lettering PB from plate 5 is from the pre-provisional printing undertaken in late December 1840, according to the Karl Louis card index the sole recorded cover bearing the state 2.
