Two Pence, perf. 12, a horizontal strip of three used on 1862 mourning envelope to Largs, Scotland tied (contrary to the Inter-Colonial agreement) by "50" in rays of Albury, New South Wales, used in combination with NSW Diadem 6 d. purple. Reverse with Melbourne datestamp in red (May 24), Greenock and Largs (July 20). A delightful combination cover - the sole recorded with any Emblems issue adhesives. Cert. '8' on De La Rue paper, perf. 13, a used horizontal pair on 1866 entire letter endorsed "Per Overland Mail via Marseilles" to Oxford, England, neatly tied by Melbourne duplex (Feb 23) in black. Reverse with Chipping Norton arrival cds (April 12). Illustrated and discussed in "The Stamps of Victoria" by Geoff Kellow RDP on pages 174 and 175: "The only multiple known is a pair used on cover" (there are two such now recorded, both housed in the "Dubois" collection). 10387 image1878: Stampless cover from Eaglehawk with despatch cds at top right (March 25) to Sandhurst, where sent to the Dead Letter Branch (May 27) and endorsed at top "Returned for 2d. Postage". The cover was officially registered and handstamped with framed "D.L.B. / REGISTERED" in green and the "2 d. Postage" deleted. Oval "TO PAY / D.L.B." and "8d." in manuscript - this charge paid by Laureated 6 d. blue and 1873/87 2 d. mauve cancelled in manuscript with Melbourne cds (May 29) on obverse. Sandhurst arrival of the following day on reverse. An extraordinarily rare 'Postage Due' usage.rn (Image 1) (Image 2)
