Large Star, imperforate, a used horizontal pair with single 4 d. dull rose, shaved to large margins, used on 1857 cover to Glasgow endorsed "per Emeu", tied by "2" barred numeral obliterators of Geelong in black. Reverse with "GEELONG / ♚ / VICTORIA" despatch datestamp (Sept 16) and obverse with 'London / Paid' arrival cds (Dec 7) in red. The "Emeu" ran aground in the Red Sea near Jeddah and the Mails were turned over to the "Madras" for onward transmission. A fine and rare cover.rn (Image 1) (Image 2)

Carried by the "City of Sydney" as far as Suez. Reverse with Melbourne despatch datestamp (Nov 16) and Dundee arrival (Jan 16, 1858). Obverse with handstruck "d6" (pence) in black to collect alongside oval "REGISTERED / G.P.O." in red. The sole recorded cover with this combination and most attractive. Certs.
