Circular GENERAL POST OFFICE / HOBART TOWN / ♚" datestamp (Feb 11). The adhesives also tied by circular "AUSTRALIE V. SUEZ / MARSEILLE" datestamp (April 3) in red, charged with handstruck '10' dêcimes marking in black. Some file folds not detracting from the appearance and could be refolded at left, a rare centire. TAS, two "used" examples created by Jean de Sperati, by photo lithography - taking the entire design and blanking over the Duty Plate, and then photographing the £ 1 Duty Plate and inserting the two together; a the First State £ 1 with "..STOWN / TASMANIA" datestamp (April 11, 1902) in black, unfortunately with damaged perfs. at base; and a Second State of the Forgery with partial "Lau(nceston) / Tasm(ania)" cds (No.. 190..) in black, perf. 13¾, this purchased from Sperati himself in 1956 and showing two white dots removed from the Greek border at lower left and the green in a faded state (not apparently considered good enough to sell). 10253 image1836 (May 4): Entire letter from Charles Price in Hobart Town to London, prepaid '4d.' for an outgoing Ship Letter in red manuscript. Backstamped "INDIA LETTER / DOVER" in red (Robertson IN5) and rated '1/-' due for an incoming Packet Letter. Red "GP" (General Post) applied in London on obverse with London arrivals (Aug 29). Scarce and fine.rnNote: Charles Price (1807-1901) was a prominent Congregational Minister and temperance advocate. Price returned to Launceston for the second time on 29 April 1836 and therefore this letter was written shortly afterwards asking "the Governor for a piece of ground for a Chapel... I shall leave no stone unturned to get a Chapel as soon as possible".rn (Image 1) (Image 2)
