Cooke with somewhat thick brownish gum and hinge to prevent splitting, trivial thin on left hand stamp and one tone spot on top perf. largely affecting the reverse only; otherwise fresh and fine - note that this Proof is from a later stage with the 'Rabbit's Ears' tuft of grass to the left of the Roo now removed. Rare, just nine examples exist, two of which are housed in the collection of His Majesty King Charles III. Cert. 10530 imageFirst Watermark 1913: Kangaroo £ 2 black & rose, Die II, first Crown over A wmk., perf. 12, a used Jean de Sperati Forgery, created from the original paper with original cancellation, the stamp then washed and the forgery applied by photo-lithography (the tell-tale sign is the white flaw off Warrnambool), handstamped on reverse upon recipt of the forger's artifacts "Sperati reproduction" and numbered '68'.
