615 imageGreek Naval Occupation of Dedeagatch 1913 (Sept. 15/Sept. 28g): The third provisional issue: 50 l. blue (two examples), perf. 11½, used on reverse of 1913 cover to Pera, Constantinople and cancelled by straight line "Dedeagatch" in Greek in red (repeated strike on obverse); one stamp showing the blue anchor Control handstamp. The 1 drachma franking is overpaid but the Postmaster in Athens (Sept. 24) applied four litho 25 l. ultramarine over the original franking as, whilst the Dedeagatch franking was legitimate it would not be recognised upon arrival in Pera. "British Post Office / Constantinople" cds also at right (Nov. 10) in black. Imperfections but a most unusual cover. (Image 1) (Image 2)
