 1841: 1 d. pink envelope used in 1853 from Nottingham addressed to "Son Altesse Royale le
Duc Maximilien" in Munich, Bavaria cancelled by rare NOTTINGHAM Wessex type double arc despatch cds (Aug 24) in black and prepaid notations at "5 d. + 2 s. 6 d. / 2 s. 11 d." in red manuscript with corresponding oval "PD" and 'London / Paid' cds of
transit. The 2 s. 11 d. ignores the 1 d. pink and pays the double rate, via France for an under ½ ounce letter (5 d. British + double the 1 s. 3 d. Franco / German postage). A marvellous cover for the connoisseur.rnProvenance: Cavendish, Derby,

(June 27) to St. Servan charged "12" dêcimes due to pay (5 d. British and 7 dêcimes French). Latter cover somewhat heavily cancelled but the former, with the Brighton routing, is very rare. (Image 1)

franked by France 1853 40 c. orange tied by 'M' dotted lozenge in black. Found to be double rate and struck with framed "AFFRANCHISEMENT / INSUFFISANT" in red and charged '12' dêcimes in manuscript and, on arrival, struck with circular "MORE TO PAY"
