A very rare item with this forgery, in this case obviously detected and presumably sequestered by the postal administration. Signed Calves; cert. E. 6178 image1870: Envelope from Marseille to Codempino, Ticino, Switzerland, bearing Bordeaux 30 c. dark-brown, a fresh and fine adhesive with large margins all round, tied by clear Gros Chiffres '2240' numeral lozenge, matching despatch cds (Jan 10, 72) and framed PD in red alongside. Reverse with LUGANO transit (Jan 16) cds. Backflap missing and shortened at top, nevertheless an appealing usage of this adhesive to a small village in Ticino, correctly paying the rate to Switzerland. (Image 1) (Image 2)

FR. No. 2 30 MAI 71" datestamp (Salles 1072C = 400 points) and framed PD in red alongside. Reverse with Paris transit and ABILLY cogwheel arrival (June 30) cds. PD handstamp repainted with ink, nevertheless a most appealing single rate Shipmail cover from Argentina, in addition an extremely rare usage of the Bordeaux issue in South America. Reverse with "COWES OC 3 70" arrival cds. Maury = € 775 + 2'500 for the rare destination.rnNote: An exceptional rare and appealing item to an elusive destination. As there was no special postcard rate to the United Kingdom at that time, the 30 c. letter rate of 30 c. introduced in July 1870 was used to pay the journey.rnProvenance: Collecton Gilbert. The reverse was struck by a large "REPUBLIQUE FRANCAISE / DARTOIS & YON / AÉRONAUTES DU GOUVERNEMENT" cachet in blue, as well as ambulant and BOULOGNE arrival (Dec 13) cds's.
