441 imageItalian PO's in Egypt 1864 (Feb 19): Unpaid Entire letter from Alexandria to Vienna, endorsed "Via Ancona", struck by light "ALESSANDRIA D'EGITTO / POSTE ITALIANE" cds in black, framed "PIROSCAFI POSTALI ITALIANI" handstamp and "S. 2.r" (Sardinia 2nd rayon) postal treaty handstamp, both in black alongside. Reverse with Ancona transit cds (Feb 25) and WIEN arrival cds (Feb 28) in red. The receiver had to pay '47' (kr.) for Italian Shipmail, Italian and Austrian postal services. A rare case where the Italian services were prefered before the Austrian ones for a letter to Austria. Also a 'POSTA EUROPEA / MANSURA' cover to Samanoud. (Image 1)

Reverse with pearled French Post Office "Port Saiud" cds of receipt (Aug 15) in black. Slight tear at right of face panel away from the adhesives, but just three Suez Canal Company covers are recorded with the 5 c. value.
