2401 image1900 (April 30): De La Rue composite Essay for the ½ d. value, hand-painted on printed Key Plate imperforate in dull green without watermark, with Country name CAYMAN ISLANDS hand-painted in green and lined "½d." Duty Plate painted in turquoise-green with value picked out in Chinese white, superb with gum. Similar to or that illustrated in "The De La Rue Collection" edited by Frank Walton RDP on page 2472. An important and charming Essay, exceptional and of great rarity with just three examples recorded.rnNote: It should be stated that this Essay is identical, as far as can be with hand-painted Essays, to the James Podger FRPSL example offered by SG in September 2019 which we believe to be entirely genuine.
