5370 image1840: 1d. black, plate 7, lettered SH, with 4 good to wide margins on letter sheet from Poulton to Lytham. The stamp is tied by a Poulton Penny Post two line cachet, as well as a magenta Preston MC. According to Rockoff Jackson the Preston MC was struck in magenta between 12. December 1840 and 19 February 1841. The Preston date stamp is 4 January 1841. This letter is not recorded by Rockoff Jackson. The letter to the exeptionally rare destination went on its journey to the US Consul on the island via Devonport.
