5301 imageBallon montê 1870 (Oct. 27): Entire letter carried on board of balloon no. 21 'Le Colonel Charras' to a Prisoner of War in Sedan, franked with Napolêon laureated 20 c. blue type II and Siège 10 c. bistre, tied by star '2' with Paris St. Lazare cds and framed "P.P." in violet alongside. The entire was franked with 30 centimes erronously for Belgium, but taxed upon arrival. Both stamps were glued around the corner of the entire, the resulting fold was ironed out, some water stains and acid ink, nevertheless a most interesting combination of a ballon montê and prisoner of war mail. Within 15 hours it made a journey of about 1200 km from Paris to Lifjell in Norway. Signed Goebel Maury = € 850.rnNote: The 'Ville de Paris' was captured by German authorities after landing nearby Sinn in Hessen-Nassau. The mail was given to the German postal system and forwarded to the addressees. This is another Ballon montê to the United Kingdom which is overfranked by 10 centimes as the public seemed not to have noticed the rate decrease from 40 to 30 centimes on July 1st, 1870.
