John Elder" (a PSNC Steamer), tied by "Anchor" lozenge of dots with framed 'P.P.' below in red and circular 'Paq. Angl. B.M. (Bordeaux) in black (Salles fig. 1199). FR. A No. 1" datestamp (Oct 1) struck in red (Salles fig. 1415) and carried on Paquebot 'Washington' from Colon. Reverse with Rowe sender's cachet and Paris arrival in blue. Reverse with Concepcion (July 12) and Santiago datestamps with Lappvik arrival cds (Aug 22). The 'Antarctic' Expedition covered the Falkland Islands, Tierra del Fuego and Chiloê Islands. 3236 image1905/09: 15 c. violet & black, a horizontal pair used on piece with "Isla de Pascua" (Easter Island) in manuscript tied by bold strike of NEW ISLAND cds (Feb 16, 1911). The stamps were applied by a a sailor on board the yawl "Pandora" which had travelled safely from Easter Island but had encountered problems while making for Hope Harbour. She was towed by a whaler the ten miles into New Island, West Falkland Islands, where she was repaired, leaving in March 1911 for St. Helena and then New York. 3238 image1917 (Nov 14): Prisoner of War concessionary rate cover to the Red Cross in Geneva, cancelled with 'Talcahuano' despatch cds in black with blue "Prisoner of War." cachet at left. Reverse with Santiago transit cds, thence via Buenos Aires and Genoa to Milan where resealed with VERIFICATO / CENSURA (69). Geneva arrival cds (Jan 19, 1918) on reverse. The cover probably from a prisoner taken after the 'SMS Dresden' was scuttled off Robinson Crusoe Island in 1915. (Image 1) (Image 2)
