1574, Aug. 7 Letter signed by her own hand from FRANÇOISE DE LA BAUME MONTREVEL 1528-1605 (aka FRANÇOISE DE CARNAVALET), lady-in-waiting to QUEEN CATHERINE DE MEDICI, written in Arc sur Tille (Cote d'Or, Burgundy, France) and sent to the French Ambassador in CONSTANTINOPLE, OTTOMAN EMPIRE with receiver mark of Nov. 8th. In this letter she asks the French ambassador in Constantinople for help, to find her missing son JEAN DE SAULX, VISCOMPTE DE TAVANNES (1547-1626), who she believes was held in captivity in Transylvania after he left KRAKAU in POLAND and followed the DUKE OF ANJOU, future KING HENRY III (1551 - 1589), for his coronation. After the departure of King Henry III to take over the French throne, Tavannes made a journey to Moldavia and fought in a revolt against the Turks during which he went missing. He was captured sword in hand despite valiant defense and was able to be released, arriving in Constantinople at the end of 1574. the letter took 3 months to reach its destination. The letter could have either gone via land through the Habsburg Empire or via sea route through the Mediterranean. Opinion Ponthion.
