1880 (2nd Afghan War) cover from London to a 'H. Martin Sandbach Esq' of the Hazara Mountain Battery, Kabul, address further defined en route by the Army Post Office '1st Div, Field Force, Afghanistan' prepaid at the 5d rate
by 4d sage green Pl.16 and 1d Venetian red, both tied by London duplexes for MR.5.1880, b/stamped with a Sea Post Office c.d.s. for 11.3.1880 and Kabul arrival c.d.s. for the 14th 'Hazara' Indian Mountain Battery were engaged around Kabul in December
1879 and received the Afghanistan Medal with clasp. A scarce destination/military item. (Image)

1880 very fine cover to Major F. Lance serving with the 2nd Punjab Cavalry nr Ghuznee, Afghanistan during the 2nd Afghan War. Prepaid at the 5d rate with 4d sage green (SG.156) and a 1d Venetian red, both neatly tied by a
crisp Chard '159' duplex for JY.15.1880, b/stamped with 'Sea Post Office' c.d.s. for JY.22.1880. RARE - very little mail to & from this theatre of war appears to have survived, Lieut - General Sir Frederick Lance K.C.B entered the Bengal Army June
1856, he served at Rohilcund during the Indian Mutiny where he was severely wounded by a muscat ball above the left ankle, mentioned in dispatches and awarded medal. Served in the 2nd Afghan War, present at the engagements at Ahmed Khel and Urzoo nr
Ghuzhee, mentioned in dispatches, awarded medal & clasp and promoted to Lieut - Colonel for services rendered. Also served in the Wuzeeree Expedition in 1881. A most attractive cover. (Image)

Airmail Exhibition with 'Selfridges' slogan cancel in red with KEVIII even though the exhibition was just over two months after KEVIII had abdicated. Interesting lot accompanied by a few more modern covers and 'The Coronation Aerial Post 1911'

AUSTRALIA 1859 very fine mourning envelope to Melbourne routed via Marseille, prepaid at the 1/9d rate for letters between ½oz-3/4oz, addressed to Sir Henry Barkly K.C.B the appointed Governor of the State of Victoria, Prepaid
with 1s green, 6d lilac, 2d blue Pl.7 and a 1d rose red, each stamp neatly cancelled by a London '28' numeral, b/stamped in London & Melbourne for FE.25.1859 & MY.11.1859 respectively. From Marseille the letter was carried on the last outward journey
by the 'European & Australian Royal Mail Co,' via Alexandria & Suez, the following month saw the inauguration of the second phase of the Australian Service by the 'P&O Steamship Co.' (Image)
