342 c 26 image26: 5¢ olive green, perforated 11½x12, a single 5¢ franking paying both the 3¢ domestic postage and a TWO CENT SHIP CAPTAIN'S GRATUITY, a special conveyance by non-contract steamer, tied by cork to cover from Quebec 28 MY '77 to New Glasgow, 10 JU receiver as well as Amherst 7 JU and Truro 8 JU transits on back, with manuscript routing instruction on front 'Pr Secret' (a vessel of the Quebec & Gulf Ports Steamship Co, which had previously held a contract for the Quebec-Pictou mail service before being replaced in 1876 by the Inter-Colonial Railway), one of ONLY TWO KNOWN COVERS with a 5¢ stamp paying both the postage and shipmaster's gratuity (the other one is the next lot in this sale).
