Matthew Bennett International Sale - 350

Public Auction: U.S. and Canada - May 13-14, 2014

Public auction in New York City with 822 high-quality lots of U.S. and Canada.

The United States section of the auction includes the work of four serious collectors and features numerous rarities as well as some of the highest graded U.S. stamps and top plate blocks available.

Just a few of the highlights would have to include: singles-the only 5¢ 1847 certified as never hinged by the PF, No. 7 o.g., graded 100, No. 47 graded 95 (the highest), the magnificent mint $5.00 Columbian corner margin single, graded 98 (the highest), a never hinged line pair of #491 (probably the finest extant), and, of course, a most handsome mint single of the fabled inverted Jenny, position 89; top never hinged plate blocks - No. 341 (the sole example certified never hinged by the PF) Nos. C13-15, a beautifully matched set.

The Canada contains the collection of a major philatelist who had previously assembled one of the finest collections of United States stamps we were privileged to offer, in our sale No. 345, September 11,2012, The Liberty Collection. His Canada is of similar quality and is highlighted by the pair of the 12 Pence, No. 3, considered by many to be the finest of the three used pairs known, a four margin sound full o.g. mint No. 9 (only the second one in this quality to be offered in auction since at least 2001), a superb used No. 31, a choice set of the Jubilee India proofs in blocks of four, as well as some of the finest never hinged mint singles 1872-1909 available.
