1900 (Feb 7) German 10pf + 10pf reply card posted from Buxtehude (Dec 24) to Colonel Schiel in St. Helena with violet "PRISONERS OF WAR / CENSOR / BROAD BOTTOM CAMP" (BW2, no initials), the attached reply card
posted back to Germany with a further strike of the BW2 censor of Broad Bottom Camp initialled "G.A.D.B" by G. de Beer. Lt. Schiel writes "as we have no German censor it is very difficult to write, besides our correspondence is very limited. My
eldest boy Adolf was severely wounded the 10. of Jan. near Pietersburg and died the following day in hospital". An unusual reply card correctly used to and from a prominent P.O.W. Photo on Page 218. (Image1)
