1033 Indo-China - Air Mails. 1929-50 Covers flown between Indo-China and France, with first flights, interrupted flights, long distance and record flights by Bailly, Reginensi and Marsot (2), Costes and Bellonte, Weiss and Girier, Goulette and Lalovette, also Air Orient, Air France, KLM, Imperial, etc. An interesting lot, written up on pages, virtually all prewar. (35).

1034 Levant - Air Mails. 1919 (Sep 18) Cover from Constantinople franked 25c + 1f cancelled by boxed "ARMEES ALLIEES EN ORIENT / POSTE AERIENNE", "TRESOR ET POSTES 506" c.d.s below, carried by French military flight to Bucharest, where the mail could connect with the Orient Express. Also a Ceylon 6c envelope cancelled to order with oval Poste Aerienne cachet (probably forged). The air service only operated in August and September 1919. (2).

1035 Martinique - Second British Occupation. 1797 (Sep 16) Entire letter written from H.M.S "Vengeance" at Fort Royal Bay, Martinique, to Scotland, handstamped "MARTINIQUE" (Robson Lowe type HS2), London and Edinburgh backstamps, charged 2/2. The "Vengeance" has just arrived at Martinique after a 6 week cruise, taken nothing but the English ship "Ross" from St Vincent laden with wine, which had been captured by a French privateer the previous day. Light file folds, otherwise fine; the British occupied Martinique from 1795 until 1798.

1040 Oldenburg. 1852-67 Mint and used selection including scarce 1852-59 ⅓sgr on green used, 1859 1g possibly on indigo (thinned), 3g on yellow used, 1861 1g (2, one the rare dull blue) and 2g used, 3g mint and used, 1862-67 roulette 11½ ⅓g mint, etc., some faults and a few forgeries noted, also entire letters bearing 1852-59 1/30th (faults) or 1859 1g, and an 1863 1g stationery envelope. A useful lot, with 1973/75 R.P.S Certificates for 1861 1g dull blue and 2g rose-red, Walter Engel Certificate for 3g yellow stating small repair. (86).

1046 Balloons. 1912 Gordon Bennett balloon race from Stuttgart, coloured poster type postcards (2) and labels (6), one card posted to the USA (Oct 26, the day before the race) written and signed by the American balloonist Arthur Atherholt with the message "off tomorrow for Russia, twenty three balloons". Atherholt and Watts were disqualified for ascending after sunset, but unaware of this they flew to Russia where they were arrested as spies due to a discrepancy in their paperwork. Minor edge faults but a unique card. (8).
