859 1853 (Sep 29) Cover with enclosed letter from Donald McPhee Lee, publisher of the Bermuda Gazette, addressed to William A. Attwood, Warwick, with fine "HAMILTON / BERMUDA" datestamp type PM4 in red. Lee was responsible for typesetting the 1875 One Penny Surcharges. A fine local cover.

860 1856 (May 24) Cover to Halifax, Nova Scotia, prepaid 4d with red "ST GEORGES - BERMUDA / PAID" datestamp type P3/1, Halifax backstamp (May 28). The long enclosed letter is full of dislike and criticism of Bermuda and the Bermudians - the whites are all too proud to do any work, the coloured people too lazy, the "darkies" are a useless, lazy, dirty, mean, low, savage, worthless, vicious, drunken set of animals who lie, cheat, steal and depraved in every way. Minor soiling, otherwise fine, ex Ludington.

861 1857 (Aug 15) Cover to England prepaid 6d with red "ST. GEORGES-BERMUDA / PAID" datestamp type P3/1 and red tombstone "PKT. LETTER / PAID / LIVERPOOL / SP 5 / 1857". The enclosed letter from a Subaltern in the 26th Regt mentions the Glasgow poisoning case, the mutiny in India, and the shortage of water at St. Georges.

C.F Oldfield includes news of the British mail steamer stopped by a northern frigate and the seizure of Confederate envoys who were going to Europe, British naval ships being sent to New York as a result.

868 1868 (Aug 11) Cover to West Port, Mass., with enclosed letter from a U.S Whaler written at Bermuda, the cover endorsed on reverse "Forwarded by B.W Walker, Ship Agent, Hamilton, Bermuda", with a "NEW YORK SHIP / 6 cts" c.d.s (Aug 26), endorsed "Due 6c". The letter included "We have not taken anything since the 26th of March, but are in hopes of doing better the latter part of this season", and has several references to other whalers. An unusual forwarded cover.

874 Air Mails. 1936-39 Covers (22) all well written up on pages, also picture postcards (2), 1938 leaflet "Bermuda by Air", and the 1992 book "The Airmails of Bermuda, specialised catalogue and price list" by W.J Clark. Included are 1937 (Nov 16) Baltimore to Bermuda and return first flight, 1938 (Mar 18) and 1939 (May 30) first G.B acceptances for Imperial and PAA New York to Bermuda services, June 7 PAA first flight from Ireland (not recorded by Clark) and August 5 first Imperial flight from Ireland (the only cover recorded by Clark), first return flight cover (7 recorded, priced by Clark at $1,000), Sept. 12 New York to Bermuda first flight by Southern route, etc. A good lot.
