25c freight money fee, the two charges shown separately with red boxed "PAID" alongside each and matching Kingston Up. Can. c.d.s, red New York c.d.s (Apr 19), "BRISTOL / SHIP LETTER" and the scarce Bristol Additional "½" handstamp. A little

Russia/Frees. 1815 (Feb 1) Entire letter from James Drummond Campbell in St Petersburg, accompanying Sir Gore Onseley and his party shortly after their mission to Persia, sent by diplomatic bag to London where it was posted as a free frank, avoiding
all postage. The letter includes "there is a courier going off and Lady Onseley has offered to get a letter franked for me", also "Sir Gore insists upon my staying till the Emperor returns .... there have been a number of new arrangements made in
Persia since I left", with a good description of a ball given by the Empress and other events attended in St. Petersburg. Britains new embassy to Persia was designed to allow Russia to make major land gains and so enable Russia to rejoin the allies
against Napoleon. An interesting letter.

St. Helena. 1817 Letter containing a copy of a letter sent by George Dunlop, surgeon attached to the 2nd Battalion, 66th Foot, serving as part of the guard on Napoleon, from St. Helena (July 5) to his uncle in Bristol, forwarded with a covering note
to George's brother in Edinburgh, then posted with a further note to their father in Ayr, charged 9d with an Edinburgh c.d.s and boxed "Addl / ½". The original letter from George Dunlop in St. Helena includes "I have just had the honour of
being presented to Napoleon. He addressed several questions to me and appeared in excellent spirits. He has of late mixed much more with society than he formerly did, and as I am stationed within half a mile of his residence, I am likely to see
more of him." An interesting Napoleon related letter, vertical file folds, otherwise fine.
