456 Yarmouth - Lord Tennyson. 1884 Cover posted from Yarmouth to Charles Dyson, Abbotsroyd, Halifax, with enclosed letter on Farringford, Freshwater embossed notepaper, "Lord Tennyson begs to thank Mr Dyson cordially for his kind congratulations, March 1 / 84", the letter and address in Tennyson's handwriting. Also an 1874 cover franked 1d from Cambridge to Mrs Tennyson, Farringford, Freshwater with Yarmouth backstamp. Tennyson was elevated to the peerage as Baron Tennyson of Aldworth & Farringford in Feb. 1884. (2).

Hindmarsh was held captive in England during the war with the USA, until able to flee to France; he is now back in the USA and can write again after the recent treaty of peace.

The "Eider" was wrecked on the Atherfield Ledge near St. Catherines Point on January 31st, most mail recovered by February 8th with the final 15 mail sacks recovered by divers on 2nd March; this card is from one of these last mail sacks to be recovered.
